SocialScope Lite for Blackberry

I have been a long time user of SocialScope on my Blackberry Bold. Its basically a social networking application that brings together status updates from both Twitter and Facebook.

I have been an Alpha tester of SocialScope for quite a while now and it has been at the same version 0.9.3.6 for quite some time. Today I found out a new version has been released, where no invitation is needed and it has been dubbed “SocialScope Lite”. This led me (and others) to believe it was a cut down version of what I had been previously been an Alpha tester of. I decided to give it a download anyway, to see how it was different from the full version and what a surprise I had.

The first thing I noticed was the much higher version number, it now stands at 0.9.5.23. Once the application is installed, I log in but it prompts me to install a newer version, I load this page and its trying to get me to install the older “Full” version, since I’m registered for it. I didn’t want to do that so I created myself a new account. I continued to log in with my new account and was presented with a whole new User Interface. Its MUCH more shiny and looks a lot better (although the underlying layout is still fundamentally the same).ssl10There’s also a bunch of new features in this “Lite” version. Many more features than what were available in the “full” version (Starting to lose me yet? – Yes the “Lite” version has more features than the “Full” version).

Some features that I have already noticed:

  • Forward options (Pressing F or forward from menu) now shows a box with the option to retweet. Retweet was previous in the menu.

  • Can perform searches on twitter.

  • Can view user profiles, check their followers, friends, tweets and follow them.

  • Can view your own profile page

I’m sure there are various other improvements hidden in this little gem but its now by far the best twitter app on the Blackberry, far out doing UberTwitter, TwitterBerry, TinyTwitter.

So, Alpha/Beta testers, you should really get yourself a new account (at least until a new “Full” version comes out) and then download this version and anybody else should also go grab themselves this amazing social networking application.
